Naturism

6 Reasons why you want to go on a naturist vacation

“Why on earth would you like to spend your free time naked with other people?”

If you’ve never tried naturism before, this question might have already popped up in your head. Or maybe it was a response you got when you told others that you wanted to try naturism. Maybe it was this exact same question that encouraged you to search the internet for answers and had you end up reading this blog post.

We have to tell you that there is no one size fits all when it comes to naturism. The different naturists all have their own different reasons. Some of these reasons are quite universally recognised though, and we’re pretty certain that you may very much appreciate some of these as well.

1. Respect

Respect if the foundation of naturism. This is quite obvious, because when you’re going naked, you are putting yourself in a vulnerable position. And so does everyone else. This can’t work if we don’t all treat each other with respect. We don’t do that because we have to or because it’s some kind of rule, but because when everyone is naked it’s easy to see that people are much more than just a body. And that it doesn’t really matter how someone looks.

Respect works in two ways, it’s about giving and receiving. As everyone will treat you in a respectful way, you automatically start respecting yourself more. This is a really good feeling, we can tell you that.

2. Everyone is equal

In the “textile” world, we are used to measuring people by what they own, what they wear, and what kind of jobs they do. It’s very artificial, but we can’t help it because that’s what society dictates. We might find ourselves writing off people we haven’t even met yet. Just because they wear this type of clothes or drive that type of car. Other people judge us on the same basis as well.

At naturist places, there are no class distinctions. Everyone is wearing the same uniform. The person you just met this morning might like to wear a 1000 euro suit outside of the campsite. Or a flower dress. Or may be dressed up like superman for that matter. You don’t know and you realise that you don’t care at all. Clothes don’t make the man, it’s what’s underneath that counts.

3. Quiet and relaxed

Naturist vacations are not mass tourism. There are only a handful of naturist campsites in the world that can accommodate thousands of guests. All the others prefer to provide their guests a lot of space and nature instead of packing them next to each other like sardines. Our domain, for example, is 50 hectares large and “only” has 120 pitches. Feel free to do the math to figure out how much space that is for every guest.

Even in the heat of the high season, you’ll always find a spot where you can be all by yourself if you want to. Without hearing anything except for the sounds of nature. If you do want to socialise, you’ll find other people in the common areas like the bar or the swimming pool. There’s always the choice.

4. Liberation

Many naturists express a feeling of freedom or liberation once they have arrived at the naturist campsite and have taken off their clothes. It’s not that they hate clothes or that they get allergic reactions when fabric touches their skin. It’s much more about the symbolic gesture. By taking off your clothes, you take off everything that puts pressure on you: society, work, complexes. Some see it as a kind of rebellion. Our whole life, we are bound to rules and laws that other people made up and by getting naked we throw off just that. We throw off the rules of society by doing something completely out of our comfort zone.

It’s said that women have a lot more stress about how they look than men, because the general beauty standards apply more to them. A woman always has to look at her best, no matter the amount of time, clothes or cosmetics it takes. At naturist places, every woman looks just like herself. Letting go of the stress of having to look “good” all the time also creates a huge feeling of liberation.

5. Living in the present

We’ve mentioned stepping out of your comfort zone in the previous paragraph, but let’s zoom in on that. Because that is actually one of the things that also stops people from giving naturism a try. For some people, the thought of being naked among other naked people is just too daunting.

However, it’s also being said that many great things can happen when you’re doing something that’s out of your comfort zone. This is because your mind will turn off auto-pilot and start focusing on the details. You are very aware of what’s happening in the moment. All your senses go in overdrive, you hear the sounds better, feel the grass between your toes and the wind pass by your body. This is also the source for bright memories.

6. It’s so comfortable

If all of the above sounds a bit hippyish or too symbolic for you, here’s a very practical reason why might enjoy naturism: Because it’s so very comfortable. If you think about a vacation at a “textile” campsite, what were the things that you found annoying? Is it getting dressed in a small tent in which you can’t stand up? Or maybe it’s your clothes that keep falling on the wet floor of the shower cabin? Is it the wet bathing suit that sticks to your body all day? Or the fact that you have to keep pulling your pants halfway up your behind so you don’t get any tan lines?

None of these things happen at a naturist campsite. You get dressed outside of your tent (if you get dressed at all). You go naked to the shower cabin and back. Nothing will stick to your body or will prevent you from getting that great tan. And once you get back home, you even have less laundry to do. How comfortable is that?
